PROJETO ESPERANÇA SÃO MIGUEL PAULISTA -
São Paulo, SP

The western suburbs of São Paulo are home to this project, run by Gabriela O'Connor and a team of volunteer doctors. They provide treatment and counselling for AIDS patients and their families, helping them to understand and cope with the tragedy.

CENTRO SOCIAL DA TORRE - Recife, PE
This centre is located in the outskirts of Recife in a region where there was a high incidence of prostitution, undernourishment, illiteracy and unemployment. The centre was founded in 1966 by the Young Womens Christian Association (YWCA) and has been making a positive contribution to the community providing good quality all-round education for 118 children aged 0 to 6 years old while their parents are at work.

CASA DE PASSAGEM - Recife, PE
This is a centre for abused and homeless girls in Recife. It was set up to provide moral and psychological help to abandoned young women who had previously seen prostitution as their
only option.
