Our Charitable Work
The Society is passionately committed to raising funds for Brazilian
charities and this is done in various ways, through events at the embassy,
lectures on Brazil, exhibitions, tours of the Houses of Parliament and gourmet tastings.
The Anglo-Brazilian Society currently supports two charities in Brazil. Each of the charities we help use a community-based, holistic approach to bring about change and are working to close the gaps in the provision of health and education that still exist. We give as much as we can to these causes and consider this work to be a fundamental part of the Society’s activity.
Located in Feira de Santana in the State of Bahia, Dispensario Santana was established in 1979 to look after children and expectant mothers in need for basic medical care. This centre runs a nursery school for 400 children, vocational training for over 100 teenagers, and a medical and dental clinic staffed by volunteer doctors and dentists.
Centro Social da Torre
Located in Recife Pernambuco the charity was founded by the British community in Recife and now run by the YWCA, this creche provides education, basic hygiene and nourishment for the poor children while their mothers are at work.
